The \u00c1rea Metropolitana de Lisboa (AML) and the Algarve were, in 2022, among the 20 most popular destinations for tourists through short-term booking platforms.<\/p>\n

According to the European statistical service, of the 20 most booked destinations through platforms such as\u00a0Airbnb,\u00a0Booking,\u00a0Expedia Group, or\u00a0TripAdvisor, six were in Spain and France, five in Italy, two in Portugal \u2013 AML and Algarve \u2013 and, leading the list, one in Croatia, all for beach holidays, on Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts.<\/p>\n

Between July and September 2022, AML and the Algarve recorded more than 3.5 million and 4.5 million overnight stays, respectively.<\/p>\n

In 2022, a total of 547 million overnight stays were recorded in the European Union through the four aforementioned platforms (which have a data-sharing agreement with\u00a0Eurostat<\/a>), an increase of 50.4 percent compared to 2021 and 6.9 percent compared to 2019 (before the covid-19 pandemic).<\/p>\n
