For business executives who travel frequently and work remotely, Lisbon is the best location to live, according to Savills, a London-based real estate company.
The firm’s latest report, the Savills Executive Nomad Index, ranks 15 popular destinations around the world based on five factors: climate, quality of life, connections to international air travel, internet speed, and prime rental prices.
Lisbon outshines the 14 other locations cited by the real estate firm because of its low levels of air pollution, good climate, and its international airport, according to the report released Wednesday.
“Tech executives and entrepreneurs are also drawn by Lisbon’s burgeoning status as a tech hub,“ Ricardo Garcia, head of residential at Savills Portugal, said in the report. “Real estate costs are low and there is a strong local talent pool. Companies are moving their headquarters to Portugal. The area is becoming more and more international.”
Miami ranks second because of its warm climate and beaches, having grown in popularity as a remote working destination in the U.S. during the pandemic. It also offers good travel connections, digital infrastructure, and a strong luxury rental market, the report said.
Third place on the list is Dubai.
“Remote working enabled business owners from abroad to make Dubai their main hub,” Helen Tatham, head of residential community sales and leasing at Savills Dubai, said in the report.
Dubai has been traditionally favored by U.K. nationals for work or leisure, but its real estate market is also seeing strong demand from French, German, Swedish, and Swiss buyers, Tatham said.
Island destinations, such as Barbados, Mauritius, Saint Lucia, and the Bahamas, are also turning into remote-working locations for business executives.
“As the workplace has evolved to a new, more flexible model, executive nomads are turning what were previously holiday-homes markets into year-round ones,” Paul Tostevin, head of Savills world research, said in the report.
